Rem

Rem is a young trans/nonbinary character artist - still trying to figure out pretty much everything.

"I created this piece to explore the inherent divinity of transness, in addition to how I would like to look and present when I'm older and able to transition. The figure isn't me, but someone I would find comfort in becoming.

I wanted it to reflect the quote from the book 'Something That May Shock and Discredit You' by Daniel Mallory Ortberg; "God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation".

I wanted it to reflect the quote from the book 'Something That May Shock and Discredit You' by Daniel Mallory Ortberg; "God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation".

Because of these inspirations, I included a lot of religious imagery in this piece. The arms are creating a halo shape around the head, a nod to self creation over inherent divinity. To push this idea of an angelic being, I gave them feathered wings and a spiked dog collar. I wanted them to appear as someone who is divine and angelic, but making alterations to reflect what that means to them.

As for the text around the image, the word "Eradicate" is strong, and I wanted it to contrast with this seemingly holy being. Why would anyone want to eradicate an angel? As a trans teen I find the idea of eradicating transness incredibly upsetting, and I wanted to show the beauty of being transgender in this piece. The text is almost meant to create an 'Eradicate me. I dare you' effect'"
