"This poem is dedicated to Brianna Ghey. I didn't want her to be remembered by the way she was murdered. That is not her story. So, I wrote Trans Birthday. Because I want us to remember the birth of her trans joy. I want people to remember that her trans joy is her legacy."

Trans Birthday

(sung)

Le Fleurs

By Minnie Riperton

"Will somebody wear me to the fair?

(To the morning, sing a lovely flower)

Will a lady pin me in her hair?

(Mmm hmm hmm)

Will a child find me by a stream?

(In the lovely, in the sunny shower)

Oooh, kiss my petals, weave me through a dream”

(spoken)

The Sapphic singers

made you dance

amongst beautiful flowers

who Love you.

We are sunkissed

in the park

And you smell like

birthday candles.

The trans gods threw

pink blue white

rose petals in the air.

It rained.

The perfume washed

your hurt away.

Washed our grief away.

And gave us your Joy today.

Because it's your trans birthday.

The Trans gods

baptized you

with pink blue white

rose petals

in the name that you chose

as the girl you've always been

but didn’t always

have the words to say.

You turn 16 today.

In this park today.

You smell like

Valentines day

happy trans birthday

Brianna Ghey.

I give you

Pink blue white

Roses

Today.
